We welcome donations and use them for a variety of purposes related to the mission of the Great Meadows Conservation Trust. GMCT is an all volunteer organization and as such donations are 100% tax deductible. You will receive an email thanking you for your donation and a letter in the mail which you can keep for your records. To become a member or renew a membership and make a donation in one transaction, please use the membership page.
To make a donation, complete the information in the fields at the bottom of this page and select a fund. You can use PayPal, Venmo, a debit or credit card, or you can mail a check to the address at the bottom.
GMCT has several funds to which you can donate:
The E.B. Wolf Fund is the primary source of income used for buying properties in the Great Meadows including appraisals, environmental inspections, site surveys, and closing costs.
The General Fund is for administrative expenses such as the cost of insuring our holdings, expenses relating to things like printing services, postage, recording and transcribing services, managing our membership, and our annual dinner.
The Stewardship Fund is used for maintaining and improving the GMCT properties. Costs associated with things like invasive species control, planting native species, brush mowing, infrastructure improvements, and related tasks are considered stewardship fund tasks.
The Betty Schmitt Scholarship and Memorial Fund has been providing annual scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, and Wethersfield who are planning to study Environmental Science and related fields in college. The fund was seeded by a generous donation from the Schmitt family in 2020. GMCT has elected to maintain this program using donations to this fund, donations received in honor of GMCT members who have left us, and funds from grants which allow the GMCT Board’s discretion in their use.
The Community Fund has been established to seek donations to support special projects and events typically not included in the GMCT’s annual budget. If you wish to support the uplifting events and community gatherings in nature, this is a good fund to donate to.
Current Community Fund – July 2025. Currently, we are seeking funding to complete our Writing the Land Poetry Table project, to host a Poetry Table dedication event at the Wood Parcel, and include a poetry workshop. The Poetry Table project is anticipated to be completed in September and the Dedication Event and Workshop are tentatively scheduled for mid-October 2025. We anticipate that we will be able to feature a reading of the poem, “Meditation on a Flood Plain Meadow Lit and Shadowed by Sun and Cloud” by its author, former Connecticut Poet Laureate, Margaret Gibson. This poem was written about our Wood Parcel and appears in the Book, “Writing the Land”.
The funds will be used to complete the Poetry Table Project already underway and to cover costs of setting up an event at the Wood Parcel which include tent, facilities, and equipment rental, honorariums, and costs to hold a workshop.
The Poetry Table project is underway with the new all-weather high quality accessible picnic table funded and ordered. The project includes an ambitious Eagle Scout project to begin mid-late August to prepare a permanent pad in the selected location in the Wood Parcel for the Poetry Table which will not only connect the Poetry Table site to our accessible trail, but will have a great view of the Fearful Swamp. The “poetry” part of the table will be completed when funding to purchase an artistically etched aluminum all weather plaque print of Ms. Gibson’s poem to be custom fitted to the new table, at a cost of around $1200 is complete.
