Grand Opening Event of the Wood Parcel Accessible Trail to the picnic table with the Gibson Poem table top.

Join GMCT for a Grand Opening of the Accessible Trail to the picnic table with the Poetry Table top at the Wood Parcel. Saturday October 10, 2026 (rain date Sunday October 11). The event will occur at the front of the Wood Parcel on the corner of Middletown Ave and Route 3 in Wethersfield.

10:00 am to noon. Guided walks on the Wood Parcel accessible Nature trail to the accessible picnic table with a view and a table top poem by Margaret Gibson. Also enjoy a display of Native American artifacts by Frank Winiarski.
12:00 pm Picnic Lunch. Bring your own or order a box lunch from Green Heron Sandwich Shop.
1:00 pm. Poetry reading by former state poet laureate Margaret Gibson of her nature poems including the poem written for the Wood Parcel and printed on the table top: “Flood Plain Meadow Lit and Shadowed by Sun and Cloud.” Wethersfield’s poet laureate Evan Goldstein will will offer a writing prompt. GMCT poet Jennifer Glick will also participate

The poetry table top with etched poem and graphics and the Reid Welch led Eagle Scout Crew that prepared the site and trail, assembled the new picnic table, and will install the poetry top once it arrives from the specialty printers.
